Oh, goodness. I have been reading through some of my old posts. Retrospect is funny. Here I babbled about all of the things I wanted to get done this year, and I realize how many did not get done. Eeeek.
Ok, so the flooring thing was almost accomplished. We still have the closet and the baseboards to do. Craig hasn't actually done anything involving the flooring since about July. He has been working with me most Saturdays, so he hasn't had much time to finish it. It is completely liveable this way, so I guess it's not so bad. I will be glad when it is over, and I have my breakfast nook area emptied out again, since at this moment it has wood in it.
I however, am upset with the scratch in my new flooring. Supposedly my young son, who is infatuated with sitting in laundry baskets, pulled a basket out of the laundry room, which is by the back door, and it must have had some gravel, or a rock, or something underneath it, because when he sat in the basket and Chloe pushed him across the floor, it left 2 squiggles running from the rug in the living room, into the kitchen. Granted, you can only see them in certain lights, and it really isn't that bad, but it kinda bums you out, because it's laminate, not wood, so you can't sand it down and refinish it, or put a stain on the scratch. Bummer.
I did however get my bedroom and laundry painted like I said I would. Of course, I haven't hung my shelves back up in our bedroom, nor have I bought the new book shelve that I want for beside my bed, nor have I put up the curtains that go with our new bedding because I need curtain rods, and I just can't bring myself to spend a fortune on them. So, I need to curtain the bedroom, Koben's bedroom, the living room, and the dining room. Ugh.
Poor Craig never got the front porch finished this summer either. Oh well, I really couldn't ask him to add that on with the other things. Maybe in the spring.
I never bought my new dishwasher either. As life often hurdles a curve ball at you, you discover things aren't what you hoped they would be. Craig had hoped for a nice bonus with his tax return, but they used the money to make up for the years that were lean, and to pad for the future. We did get more than last year, because we were finally able to write off some stuff we have had for a few years, but it wasn't what we were hoping, so that kinda spoiled the dishwasher, possibly new furniture idea. Things like that happen when you own your own business, and especially when you do imports, and it is an election year, and the economic future is up in the air, or so these people all say. Oh well, there is always next year, right? We will need to do something about the furniture next year, it is really getting worn out. It doesn't look horribly worn out, but it is really uncomfortable. So that will definitely be on the list for spring. However, the dishwasher works just fine, but is not the right color, so that will just have to wait. Although, they really don't cost that much, so maybe I can slip it in. I know I have a Lowes, and a home depot card, but I really don't want to use them for a stupid little dishwasher. Besides, after the stupid thing with Home Depot and the fraudulent use of our home depot card, I am cancelling it this month when I finally pay off the water heater I bought in January, but couldn't start paying for until July when they finally figured out we weren't the ones that put the $2,000 dollars on the card. Our bill was only $500.00. Snots.
Other then the massive amount of yard work I always have, and never completely finish (I'm not yard anal like my mother. =P) I feel like we accomplished a fair amount this year. With food and gas prices higher than normal, I'm glad we got that much accomplished.
